The History of Chelsea Football Club Founding and Early Years (1905-1952) Chelsea Football Club was founded on March 10, 1905, by Henry Augustus Mears. The club was established at the Rising Sun pub (now known as The Butcher’s Hook) opposite the main entrance to the ground on Fulham Road. Chelsea’s home games have always been played at Stamford Bridge, a stadium Mears acquired with the intention of creating a football ground.
